All our seafarers are trained in the very best of maritime academies in India and elsewhere. A Cadet training programme has been implemented for over 20 years. A majority of our Masters and Chief Officers have been initiated through our own Cadetship programme. We have our own training institute in Kochi and another state of the Art Institute being developed in Mumbai, India that will cater to the entire spectrum of training requirements of Univan and its clients worldwide and where our staff undergo training that complies with the provisions of S.T.C.W. 1995 and a host of other value added courses aided by world class simulators. This training includes bridge simulation, bridge team management, liquid cargo handling, ECDIS familiarization, etc.

Ship-specific training is emphasized to all returning staff. A periodic survey of facilities all over the world for various types of special courses is made and communicated to sea staff.

UNIVAN also holds frequent seminars in India for its staff in order to re-orient them and help them keep abreast of new maritime regulations. In addition, the company actively participates in various pre-sea and maritime educational programmes conducted by maritime bodies in India and Philippines.

Why Training?

Safety
4 accidents at sea out of 5 are due to human error. Training and evaluation are lifesaving concerns. It is also fundamentally the best way to ensure the shipowners and operators' assets are well managed, looked after and protected.

Improvement through a permanent learning process
Training is an incessant process that benefits all; the seafarer is trained, our clients satisfied and thus ourselves. We believe that by emphasizing on quality training under the supervision of highly qualified and experienced officers, we will continue to be ahead while regulations continue to become more demanding.

S.T.C.W. & I.S.M. Code
With the challenges that arise through an increased and tougher maritime legislation, namely the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping convention of 1995 and the International Safety Management Code, both shipowners and ship managers need to meet technical compliance standards and to have properly trained and competent crew.

Cost Effective
Transmitting the proper knowledge and skills is the corner stone of profitable Shipmanagement.

Our approach to training is related to experience on the vessels and the deep knowledge of the various kinds of ships that we manage, allowing us to maintain the various expenditures low.
